The Africa Urban Lab (“AUL”) – which will be housed at the new African School of Economics Zanzibar campus (“ASE-Z”) – is an initiative of the Charter Cities Institute (“CCI”) – and Ardhi University (“Ardhi”) entered into a Letter of Agreement (“LOA”) as a prelude to a more detailed Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”).
Under the LOA terms, AUL will work with Ardhi on the launch, operations, and expansion of AUL. Specifically, Ardhi will host AUL at its Dar es Salaam campus, attend the AUL grand opening, and nominate post-graduate students to participate in the professional development diploma program at AUL in November 2024. The future MOU will be more comprehensive and entail the development of exchange academic programs, curriculum development, and co-research projects.
The institutions will work cooperatively to advance education in East Africa, with a special emphasis on urban development. The LOA was executed by Professor John Modestus Lupala for Ardhi and Kurtis Lockhart for AUL/CCI. The AUL was made possible in part through the support of Grant 63321 from the John Templeton Foundation. The opinions expressed in this LOA and by the AUL do not necessarily reflect the views of the John Templeton Foundation.
