Kurtis Lockhart Moderates Panel on SDG Financing at US-Africa Business Summit

CCI attended the 14th US Africa Business Summit hosted by the Corporate Council on Africa (CCA) to increase awareness of our work in Africa.

The Charter Cities Institute attended the 14th US-Africa Business Summit hosted by the Corporate Council on Africa (CCA) as an exhibit sponsor. CCI was able to introduce the charter cities model and increase awareness for Africa’s NXT50 Cities Coalition, a global initiative to support the development of new African cities.

At the summit, CCI Executive Director Kurtis Lockhart moderated the panel “Leveraging Financing Options to Accelerate SDG Progress” with speakers Peter Sullivan from Citi, Emilio Bunge with Development Finance International, Robin Wheeler from the West Africa Trade Hub, and Benjamin Asare with Pfizer. Kurtis was also interviewed by the news channel Africa 24 on charter cities and how they can contribute to economic growth in Africa.

The US-Africa Business Summit featured a Head of State, 20 ministers, many prominent US government officials, as well as US and African business executives. CCI was able to connect with a range of stakeholders to discuss policies and strategies for economic partnerships between the United States and Africa. 

About the US Africa Business Summit

The Corporate Council on Africa in partnership with the Kingdom of Morocco hosted the 2022 U.S.-Africa Business Summit in Marrakech, Morocco on July 19-22, 2022, under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco. 

This year’s summit, themed “Building Forward Together,” explored a renewed commitment by both public and private sector stakeholders to building stronger U.S. and Africa trade, investment and commercial ties as we emerge from unprecedented health and economic challenges.
