Bringing the charter city development model to Africa.
Lusaka, Zambia
CCI Zambia was launched in 2021 to help advance the charter cities movement in Zambia and across the continent. The objective of the office is to work collaboratively with the Zambian Government and key stakeholders to create an enabling environment for establishing charter cities in Zambia by leveraging the existing Multi-Facility Economic Zone (MFEZ) program. We’re already working with the private sector, governments and local authorities, think tanks, civil society, associations, and other interested stakeholders to bring the charter city development model to Africa.
Our mission is to empower new cities with better governance to lift tens of millions of people out of poverty in Africa, with a focus on the Sub-Saharan region. We are forming strategic partnerships and working with key stakeholders across the continent, leading relevant research and guiding projects, and driving the conversation about urban challenges. We’re also providing stakeholders with access to city development financing, as well as legal, governance and planning experts.
The NXT50 Cities Coalition is a global initiative that supports the development of thriving new cities in Africa. NXT50 convenes and mobilizes key stakeholders who are dedicated to harnessing Africa’s rapid urbanization for human prosperity.
